About the Presenters

Jack Jezreel, a popular national speaker and teacher, received a Master of Divinity degree from the University of Notre Dame. He is the originator of the JustFaith program, and now serves as Senior Advisor for JustFaith Ministries. His newest book is titled A New Way to Be Church: Parish Renewal from the Outside In.

Marti Jewell, D.Min., Associate Professor Emerita of the Neuhoff School of Ministry at the Universi-ty of Dallas, served as the Director of the Emerging Models of Pastoral Leadership Pro-ject. Her books include Navigating Pastoral Transitions: A Parish Leaders’ Guide, and she has received multiple awards for her research, including the Lumen Gentium Award from CPPCD in 2019.

Mark Mogilka, Senior Consultant for Meitler, church planning and management consulting firm located in Milwaukee, after serving for 42 years in diocesan ministries. In 2007 Mark received the Yves Congar award from CPPCD and co-authored the book entitled Pastoring Multiple Parishes.

Chris Lowney, is chair of one of America’s larg-est hospital systems, Catholic Health Initiatives. A one-time Jesuit seminarian and former man-aging director of JP Morgan, he is author of several books including Pope Francis: Why He Leads the Way He Leads and Heroic Leader-ship: Best Practices from a 450 –Year Old Com-pany That Changed the World.

What Makes Pastoral Planning in US Dioceses Successful

What do we see in examples of successful pastoral planning in dioceses across the US? What has emerged over recent years as the driving frames of reference and practices for the best pastoral planning in US Catholic dioceses? There are plenty of great examples of success in pastoral planning at this time in the history of the US Catholic Church, but what are the common elements that lead to that success? Jim will explore the difference between good practice and best practice in pastoral planning that has emerged in recent years from his national perspective as director of programs and services for Leadership Roundtable.

Evangelical Discernment, Evangelization, and Pastoral Planning

with Hosffman Ospino

In this presentation, we will explore core aspects of Christian discernment, exploring how these can be at the service of pastoral planning for evangelization in missionary key. We will study two cases of pastoral planning that use the See-Judge-Act methodology and assess how those cases can enhance current efforts of pastoral planning in the United States.

Pastoral Planning and the Journey Within

For pastoral planning to truly succeed, it must be accompanied by a unique spirituality, to avoid making it a business exercise and losing its ministerial nature. This talk will reflect upon the nature of this spirituality and explore it’s characterization as a “journey of the heart” that allows us to then journey with others in intentional planning.

Anatomy of the Joy of the Gospel and Its Wisdom for Evangelization in a Time of Paradigmatic Changes

This presentation takes a detailed look at Pope Francis’ Apostolic Exhortation The Joy of the Gospel, identifying key themes that can help leaders engaged in pastoral planning to better respond to some urgent realities define the lives of Catholics in the United States today.

From Theory to Practice

How do we use the Joy of the Gospel in our work and our lives? What are the practical applications to pastoral planning and evangelization in our parishes and dioceses? This presentation will use Jim’s own experience and practice as well as incorporating what has evolved throughout the conference time among all participants.
