DIRECTORY FOR THE NINETEENTH DIOCESAN SYNODIn accordance with the 1997 Vatican Instruction on Diocesan Synods, the Diocese of Pittsburgh published this directory in 1998. The Directory describes how the synod will be prepared and conducted (1998, 16 pp., $4 includes shipping). INDICATORS OF PARISH VITALITYA section of the diocesan “Parish Resource Manual,” a guidebook for parish revitalization. Over 100 indicators of vitality in five areas of parish life (community, worship, service, education, and leadership) assist parishes in conducting a self-assessment that identifies areas for improvement. Then, a plan of action for parish revitalization can be developed (1998, 70 pp., $15 includes shipping).  HANDBOOK FOR DEANSThis handbook provides information and resources to help the dean (vicar forane) understand his role and carry out his responsibilities, including such administrative oversight as ensuring financial and sacramental records are in order (2001, 34 pp., $8 includes shipping). PARISH SURVEY

A survey on 32 elements of parish life, asking people to rate the importance of each element and how well the parish does for each element (the quality). This survey instrument was designed for mass distribution and electronic scanning of the results (1990, 4 pp., no charge).
